About Me

Drummer, percussionist, vibraphonist, marimbist and composer, Eva Català Sánchez is considered one of the most promising emerging voices of the Spanish jazz and world music scene. At only 25, Eva has participated as a guest artist in multiple world-renowned festivals including the 57 Jazzaldia, the I Festival Eurovenezolano de Jazz in Venezuela, the XXIV Valencia Jazz Festival, La Rochelle Jazz Festival 2022 and the World Minimal Music Festival 2019 in Amsterdam, among others. Through these opportunities, Eva has shared the stage with many greats of the jazz community in Spain including but not limited to Perico Sambeat, Juan Munguía, Carlos Sarduy, David Pastor, Yoel Páez, Nacho Mañó and Sole Giménez.

Aside from her prolific resume as a performer, Eva has also been awarded a variety of grants and scholarships to collaborate with revered institutions, such as the Berklee College of Music, from which she graduated with a master´s degree in 2022. Before specializing in modern music and production at Berklee, she graduated with the Premio Extraordinario for her bachelor studies in classical & contemporary percussion at the Music Conservatory of Valencia (Spain) in 2020. Eva also spent time studying at the famed Codarts University of Performing Arts in Rotterdam (Netherlands) thanks to the Erasmus + Scholarship program. Among other awards, Eva is the recipient of the prestigious AIE Scholarship and placed 1st in the 2020 MP Music Foundation International Competition. She’s also part of Sedajazz Colectivo de Músicos, which is the oldest institution in Spain that promotes jazz music and where she also started learning this music.

This combination of education and performance experience has led Eva to find a unique sound as arranger and performer, narrowing the gap between modern jazz, latin-american music, flamenco, and contemporary classical approaches. Due to her versatility and diverse knowledge, Eva has become one of the most in-demand young players on the Spanish circuit today. Ultimately, Eva´s love for music is built on her vision of traversing cultural and social boundaries through the artform.  She believes strongly that music is a tool which can be utilized to overcome the deep divides found in our society, and to lay the foundations for a stronger community.  Eva maintains a busy schedule teaching, performing, and working to spread empathy and love through music.
